Submit Material to TAAP
Submit your materials to The African American Pulpit! Unsolicited materials are gladly received. All materials should be submitted via e-mail attachment to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net

Our upcoming Issue themes and material deadline dates are as follows:

Winter 2010–2011—Eulogies III. As with Eulogies I and II, this issue will feature the eulogies of outstanding African American preachers, civic leaders, cultural icons, and persons who made a difference in our community. Please submit eulogies of persons you believe should be considered for inclusion in this issue. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is May 5, 2010.

Spring 2011—Preaching to Generation Next. They’re not Baby Boomers, and they’re not Generation X. Today’s young adults, born in the 1980s, live in a different world from their elders, an era of the Internet, cell phones, and ever-evolving technology and social media, not to mention dramatic changes in global politics and international economics. This issue will feature sermons addressing the Black Church’s message and ministry to this group, “the Millennials.” We want sermons that speak directly to Gen Nexters, their realities, challenges, and opportunities. We are also seeking articles that describe how to understand and minister to Millennials. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is August 4, 2010.

Summer 2011—Preaching During Difficult Economic Times. This issue highlights the messages emanating from African American pulpits amid the backdrop of today’s economic upheaval. How has Black preaching addressed the carnage of home foreclosures, job losses, and rising health care costs? We are also seeking articles addressing the economic, social, and psychological impact of what some have called the “Great Recession” and the prognosis of doing ministry in its wake. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is November 4, 2010.

Fall 2011—Sex and the African American Pulpit. Let’s talk about sex: theologically, spiritually, and socio-culturally. In this issue, we will highlight sermons and articles addressing African Americans and sexuality and intimate relationships. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is February 4, 2011.

Winter 2011—The Best Sermon I Ever Heard. The issue will feature sermons that left indelible impressions on their hearers. If it was unforgettable, life-changing, or awe-inspiring, we want to include it in this issue. We want to compile not-previously-published gems of Black preaching drawn from your recommendations. (You need to include the name of the nominator; the name of the person who preached the sermon; title, year, and occasion of the message; and a photo of the person who preached the message, if possible) and audible recordings or an email attachment of the sermon. Send in your nominations as early as possible. Audio recordings (cassettes, CDs, and DVDs) should be sent to 450 Piedmont Ave., Suite 2101, Atlanta, GA 30308 and cannot be returned. The deadline for submission of emailed material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is May 4, 2011.

Presenting The African American Lectionary! It's Historic! It's Revolutionary! It's HERE!
Visit www.TheAfricanAmericanLectionary.org and change your worship and preaching forever!

Desiring to create new national conversations around the use of Scripture in worship and preaching, In 2007 The Rev. Martha Simmons, president and publisher of The African American Pulpit, commissioned Drs. Katie Cannon, Brad Braxton, and Rodney Sadler Jr. to facilitate the first year of an ecumenical, web-based, African American lectionary. Dr. Leo Davis and Mr. Nolan Williams Jr. served as Lectionary Liturgists and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and Reverend William Wiggins Jr. served as Cultural Historians for the lectionary.

Throughout the project, now in its third year, clergy, worship leaders, historians, cultural anthropologists, poets, musicians, and others have contributed lectionary readings, poetry, music, and worship planning ideas. Persons can send e-mail to info@theafricanamericanlectionary.org through August 2010 if they would like to contribute to the lectionary and help us make history!

Moses probably would not have heard God had he not been on the backside of the desert. God calls us at times way over in life to tell us that our dreams are to come true.

Sandy F. Ray
Great Revivalists I Winter - 2001-2002
So preachers, teachers, servants of God, don't you get tangled up between the wilderness and the cliff. Don't you surrender your identity. Sister preacher, whether they believe you or not, you'd better know who you are.
